Bogusz discusses government with congressional interns

Des Plaines Mayor Matt Bogusz met with seven interns for Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth and Congressman Brad Schneider in his office on Monday, July 8.

The group of summer interns, comprised of college and high school students, sought to better understand the functions of local government as they grow their career experience through work with members of Congress. Bogusz welcomed them for a sit-down discussion of his experiences in municipal government. Topics discussed by Bogusz included issues he has encountered as an elected official, the city’s top priorities, and advice he could provide them as they seek to enhance their knowledge of government.

“I was delighted to meet so many young people with such a strong interest in government,” Bogusz said. “They understand that a broad consensus is necessary to accomplish anything of significance in government, and they asked me serious, probing questions as a result. We had a great discussion.”

In addition to their discussion with the mayor, the congressional interns toured the Des Plaines City Council chambers where they learned how council meetings are conducted. Community Service Officer Jeff Paul of the Des Plaines Police Department then gave them process tutorials during a tour of the department’s booking facilities, holding cells, and vehicle fleet.
