An electrical fire caused an estimated $20,000 damage to a building at a Batavia retirement community, authorities said.
The blaze was reported about 10:45 p.m. Friday at The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway. An electrical panel had ignited, according to a news release from the Batavia Fire Department. A firefighter put out the blaze with a portable extinguisher.
The blaze was blamed on a water-softener tank that had overflowed and leaked onto the panel, authorities said.
The building was temporarily evacuated, and one person was taken to a hospital for reasons not related to the fire, the release said.
