Ex-Chicago police sergeant’s prison sentence cut

A former leader of the Chicago Police Sergeants Association who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for stealing more than $1 million from the union has had his sentence reduced.

Cook County Circuit Judge Diane Cannon on Wednesday resentenced John Pallohusky to eight years in prison after his attorneys said he could pay back $465,000 to the association. Pallohusky appeared in court wearing a prison uniform, and did not speak during the brief hearing.

The 57-year-old pleaded guilty in April 2012 without reaching a sentencing deal with prosecutors.

Prosecutors say he used the union’s money to pay for luxuries like trips to Las Vegas or to pay off debts and place a down payment on a home.
