UIC to unveil Daley archive

The University of Illinois at Chicago is getting ready to debut its collection of documents from former Mayor Richard J. Daley.

The school says the archive takes up 150 linear feet and includes more than 7,000 photographs that were amassed by Daley during his six terms in office.

Other items in the collection include inscribed books from Daley’s personal library, awards, art and “ephemera from his family life.” It also includes material from his time as chairman of the Cook County Democratic Central Committee.

Daley took office in 1955 and held the post until his death in 1976.

The collection is being introduced this evening.
