Chicago’s attractions better than a casino

A recent press report indicates that the city of Detroit is defaulting on its debt of $2 billion. The report also references the time Detroit casinos opened and promised to be the solution to the city’s financial problems.

There is a lesson in this for Illinois lawmakers who are clamoring for a casino in Chicago. Perhaps it’s a good idea to keep the focus on the many attractions the city already has to offer millions of visitors every year. Retail and restaurant sales generated by such attractions as the Art Institute, Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum cannot be duplicated by a casino.
