Police: Downers Grove deaths stem from domestic incident

Police weren’t releasing any new information Sunday about a Downers Grove couple found stabbed to death in their home Friday.

The deaths of Thomas F. Smith, 41, and Jennifer M. Smith, 39, appeared to be related to a domestic incident, police said, but authorities did not disclose more details of the ongoing investigation.

Police conducting a well-being check found the bodies in the couple’s home on the 6200 block of Park Avenue Friday afternoon. Neighbors said the Smiths were quiet and never a problem to anyone in the neighborhood.

Over the weekend several neighbors expressed concern about the couple’s preteen daughter, who police said was not at home at the time of her parents’ deaths and is now with relatives.
