NSSEO Foundation holds annual meeting
The Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization Foundation, Inc. Board of Trustees recently held its annual meeting at the NSSEO-owned Sunrise Lake Outdoor Education Center in Bartlett. The evening included election of officers, planning of upcoming fundraisers and a presentation given by NSSEO Superintendent Dr. Judy Hackett regarding NSSEO initiatives and proposed projects for the foundation to consider funding.
Newly re-elected officers include: President Bill Lloyd; vice president Bob Hess; secretary John Kurth; and treasurer Sue Ramstedt. The board was provided a facility tour guided by Bryan Bolger, outdoor education specialist, including the lake front canoe area and fishing pier.
The NSSEO Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization benefiting students with special needs. The foundation is focused on fundraising to increase educational opportunities and support for special needs students within the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization. The foundation is governed by a board of trustees comprised of community members who volunteer their time and talents.
The NSSEO Foundation raises funds through private donations, corporate gift giving and gift matching, its largest fundraising event-the Spring Showcase of Arts and Crafts at Kirk School (next held in March 2014), the Family Friendly Magic Show and Raffle, holiday and floral card sales featuring NSSEO student art work, “Change for Kids” initiative (supported through the NSSEO staff) and various other smaller initiatives. The foundation also welcomes memorial gifts and donations.
Funds raised are used for many purposes including mini-grants for class room projects and supports, sponsorship of Special Olympics teams and extracurricular and community-based activities for students that would not be available without foundation support. The joint venture Miner School Greenhouse was aided with funds from the foundation along with the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce and anniversary committee.
