Des Plaines acknowledges Arts Council scholarship recipients

The Des Plaines Arts Council, which supports and promotes fine arts in the community, presented its annual student scholarships in the company of Des Plaines city officials and the public at the June 17th City Council meeting at Des Plaines City Hall, 1420 Miner St.

Scholarships are intended for youth desiring to advance in the study of fine or performing arts. Applications are received from the local community for scholarships that may be used for private lessons, instrument upkeep, arts related summer camps, or first year college tuition for students majoring in the arts.

Des Plaines Arts Council Scholarship recipients are: Anna Remus, eighth grade, Chippewa Middle School, cello; Michael Mickey, 11th grade, Maine West High School, percussion; Juhi Soni, fourth grade, Iroquois Community School, piano; Jacqueline Ortiz, 11th grade, Maine West High School, piano/band; Leah Kuhn, sixth grade, Algonquin Middle School, piano; Manjoi Sunny, 11th grade, Maine West High School, band; Ella Kurutz, seventh grade, Chippewa Middle School, dance; Varun Nair, seventh grade, Chippewa Middle School, guitar; Zoe Schmidt, sixth grade, Algonquin Middle School, acting; Haripriya Mehra, ninth grade, Maine West High School, violin; and Katelyn Reyes, 12th grade, Elk Grove High School, Illinois State University, dance/music.
