Flood assistance deadline extended

Lake County property owners are being reminded that the deadline for applying for disaster assistance from the storms of April and May has been extended to July 24. As of Monday, 1,165 Lake County property owners haver registered for federal disaster assistance.

Eligible expenses include housing assistance, temporary rental assistance and home repair costs as well as other disaster-related needs such as medical and dental expenses. Even those with insurance should apply because they may be eligible for uninsured damages or additional living expenses, according to Kent McKenzie, Lake County emergency management coordinator.
