Execs win while taxpayers lose

Your editorial on the outrageous generosity of the Metra Board expressed the same outrage and frustration felt by many taxpayers. The free-spending attitude among many government leaders has to be discouraged or we will all be paying much higher taxes. Thank you for pointing out that the sweetest benefits — such as reimbursement for unused sick days — are driven by the public union’s ability to combine labor and political clout to create dominating power at the bargaining table.

Unfortunately, as this case shows, the managers and executives in these organizations also get what the union gets. If those in charge get the same Cadillac benefits as the public unions, who will be looking out for the interests of the average taxpayer?
