Search halted for man, dog missing in Lake Barrington creek

Crews have halted their search for a man and a dog reported missing Wednesday morning in a Lake Barrington creek, according to officials.

Lt. Michael Brown of the Barrington Fire Department said shortly before 11:30 a.m., a witness reported he saw a white male with black hair and a dog in the middle of Flint Creek, near the Lake Barrington village hall.

“(The witness) saw them get washed around the bend,” Brown said, adding that at the time of the call, the water in the creek was very swift, high and filled with debris.

Brown said the fire department responded to the scene, along with Lake County Forest Preserve police and crews from the Lake County Sheriff's Department. The witness was interviewed and deemed credible and the Lake County Swift Water Team began a search of the creek, Brown said.

“We had boats in the water. We had crews on the shore,” he said, adding that media helicopters and Lake County Air-One assisted with the search.

Crews searched the creek from Kelsey Road north to the Fox River, but no one was found. They then moved to the Fox River, where they searched north and south of the Flint Creek inlet with help from the Lake County Sonar Team, Brown said.

By 7 p.m., the search ended. Brown said it will stay halted until further information comes in.

“To this point, we have had no report of anyone missing,” he said. “We did our due diligence from what we deemed was a credible witness.”
