30-pound pot bust after West Dundee domestic call

A routine domestic battery turned into a bust of 30 pounds of marijuana thanks to some alert and observant Kane County Sheriff’s deputies.

Authorities were called Friday for a domestic battery on the 18N600 block of Woodcrest Lane near West Dundee and arrested resident Daniel L. Forcucci, 42, on misdemeanor charges, according to Kane County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Pat Gengler.

“(Forcucci) was charged with domestic battery for striking (a woman) in the face and while (deputies) were there, (deputies) started seeing some indicators that there might be drugs in the home,” Gengler said. “Here, our guys realized something else might be going on and took it another step.”

Deputies noticed some packaging material for marijuana at the house, secured a search warrant and called in a canine unit, Gengler said. The result was deputies seized about 30 pounds of marijuana; Gengler could not immediately provide an estimated street value because he didn’t know its quality.

“Thirty pounds is definitely more than somebody is going to sit around and smoke if they’re watching the Stanley Cup Final,” Gengler said. “Whether he was just holding it for somebody or if he was a bigger piece of the puzzle, he didn’t say.”

Forcucci faces felony charges of possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana with intent to deliver. He is next due in court July 3 and is free after posting $15,000 cash bond. He faces between six and 30 years in prison if convicted.

According to court records, Forcucci’s 27-year-old girlfriend told police he accused her of cheating on him, threw a doughnut in her face, kicked and punched her and used a hammer to break her phone. All of this occurred with their 4½-year-old son nearby. Forcucci has threatened to kill her in the past, according to an emergency order of protection granted against him Tuesday.
