CenturyLink announces local scholarship recipient

PEKIN, IL– CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) recently awarded Ellen Zhou, daughter of CenturyLink lead software developer Xiang Shen and Doug Zhou, a 2013 CenturyLink Employees' Children Scholarship. The scholarship, open to any high school senior who will be attending an accredited college or university and with at least one parent employed by CenturyLink, is worth $1,000 per year and is renewable for up to four years if the student continues to meet certain criteria.

CenturyLink received approximately 500 applications from across the U.S. Of those applications, 80 scholarships were awarded.

“For the last 20 years, we have awarded these educational scholarships to the deserving sons and daughters of CenturyLink employees,” said Michael D. Brill, CenturyLink's vice president and general manager for Illinois.“Each of the winners was selected for exemplary academic accomplishments, along with outstanding involvement in community programs and activities.”

Zhou, a recent graduate of Adlai E. Stevenson High School, will attend Northwestern University in the fall where she will pursue a B.A. degree.
