Not so fast on ‘marriage equality’
Not so fast on ‘marriage equality’
Referencing the Daily Herald’s editorial of June 19, “Marriage equality still right for Illinois” — hold it, not so fast.
For almost 2,000 years, the Catholic church has declared marriage to be a holy sacrament between a man and a woman. In the eyes of the church, there is no such thing as a marriage between two females or between two males. No holy sacrament.
In recent years, the joining of two people of the same sex has been called a civil union. But gays aren’t happy with this — they want their union to be called a marriage.
A marriage between a man and a woman is not the same as a civil union between gays. The two states are not equatable. They aren’t even similar. They are totally different.
One is a marriage instituted by Christ; the other is a civil union instituted by the state. The church recognizes Christ to be the second person of the Holy Trinity. The state is nothing more than a political entity.
