Mr. Meyers Caribbean Band Brings a Beach Party to Lake Park

Mr. Meyers Caribbean Band kicked off the 2013 Live at the Lake free summer concert series on Thursday, June 20, at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion. The Sycamore-based band, known for its blend of calypso, reggae and rock 'n roll, draws its unique sound from the use of authentic steel drums, also known as steel pans. The audience was up on their feet dancing to tunes by Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffett, Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte, The Grateful Dead, and The Police. The band features lead vocalist Todd Donnelly on steel pans and percussion; Rich Fulfs on guitars; Kevin Flanagan on saxophone and flute; Wally Hustin on bass guitar; and Greg Kulma on drums and percussion. “We wanted a beach party,” said Nancy Suwalski, Cultural Arts Supervisor for the Des Plaines Park District, “and Mr. Meyers always makes you feel like 'every little thing's gonna be alright.'”

Live at the Lake performances take place on select Thursday nights, from 7:00-8:30pm, at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion, 2200 Lee Street between Touhy and Howard Avenues. The 2013 schedule features: June 27: Artistry in Motion Dance Company; July 11: The Barefoot Hawaiian; July 18: Des Plaines Park District Community Concert Band; and July 25: dupage.
