Learn where food comes from at family event in Algonquin

Submitted by village of Algonquin

The theme of the 11th annual Algonquin Conservation Community Day on Friday, June 21, will be “Local Farms = Fresh Foods = Better Health.”

At 11 a.m., walk along the Woods Creek bike path (Bunker Hill Drive to Woods Creek Lane), visit with local environmental organizations and learn where our food comes from during this free, family event.

The event aims to educate and inform people about the environment, how natural resources are being protected in their community, and what local residents can do to conserve resources and protect the environment. This year will focus on local farms that provide fresh foods that equates to better health.

Join this fun-filled day and learn what you can do to lessen the impact to preserve and protect our natural resources. Free materials will be distributed to the public and children will have the opportunity to make crafts from recycled items. The village’s departments and a number of local environmental organizations from McHenry and Kane counties will have displays at the event. For details, call Katie Parkhurst at (847) 658-4184.
