Group bike ride planned on Great Western Trail

Enjoy the sights and sounds of summer with a leisurely bike ride along the Great Western Trail Saturday, June 22, as part of the Nature Network.

“The Nature Network” is a Forest Preserve District of Kane County program series designed for active adults who are interested in nature and want to meet others. Each month, the district will host a gathering that features a nature-themed discussion or activity.

On June 22, participants will meet at the Creek Bend Nature Center within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve at 9 a.m. for a bike ride on the Great Western Trail. After a quick safety check, they’ll hit the trail and enjoy the natural features along the way.

“The Great Western Trail is great for bicycling,” said naturalist Ben Katzen, who heads up the group. “We’ll stop along the way to learn about the natural areas along the trail.”

Adults of all ages are welcome; provide your own helmet and bicycle. The ride will be around 10 miles and last until about 11 a.m. There is no charge for this program, but registration is required.

Call (847) 0741-8350 or email programs@kaneforest.com. Creek Bend Nature Center is within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.
