Aurora council to host first Veterans Fair

The city of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council will host its first Veterans Fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, in Aurora University’s Perry Theatre, 1305 Kenilworth Place in Aurora. All veterans and families are invited to attend the free event.
The Aurora University Center for Adult and Graduate Studies, along with several veterans organizations, will have informational booths set up in the theater’s lobby.
“Aurora University has a long history of serving veterans through our adult and graduate programs,” said Emily Morales, director of adult degree completion programs.
“The goal of the fair is to bring together, in one place, various resources available to veterans and their families.”
These organizations are scheduled to be on-site: American Legion Post 84; Aurora Navy Council; Aurora University Center for Adult and Graduate Studies; City of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council; DuPage County Veterans Center; Fox Valley Marines; Hope for Tomorrow; Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs; National Cemetery Association; and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs — Chicago Regional Office.
At 3:30 p.m., Ryan Miles and Sandra Hatch of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will speak on “Federal Veterans Benefits.”
It will be followed at 4:30 p.m. by a presentation on DuPage County Veterans Center Services with Pat Wasisco of the DuPage County Veterans Center.
At 5 p.m., learn about the Aurora Navy Council mission and membership from retired Col. Richard Todas of Aurora Navy Council. It will be followed at 5:30 p.m. by a presentation on the “State of Illinois Veterans Benefits” by Wesley Yi of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
At 6:30 p.m., learn about “Veterans Homelessness, PTSD and Substance Abuse” from Jeff Gilbert of Hope for Tomorrow.
