Silver Gleaming in the Grove

A silver medal pounded against Raman Kudrautsau's chest after his hard fought win at the 2013 Illinois Taekwondo State Championship where he placed 2nd in the state for Sparring. 10-year-old Kudrautsau, represented the Wheeling tae kwon do school, White Tiger Martial Arts Center (WTMAC) and now qualifies to compete in the Junior Olympics being held in Chicago, July 3-9.

The United States Olympic Committee recognizes USA Taekwondo (USAT) as the governing body for the sport of Tae Kwon Do in the United States. Kudrautsau was amongst an estimated 1000 athletes who traveled from around the Midwest to complete in the IL State Taekwondo Championship, sanctioned by USAT. Kudrautsau's victory at this state-level USAT competition is what now qualifies him for the Junior Olympics.

Kudrautsau is a red belt and studies martial arts at WTMAC under the instruction of Head Master Shik Lee. “Sparring is especially difficult,” stated Lee. “It's aggressive and physical but despite that, Raman not only competed but took silver.”

The 2013 USA Taekwondo Junior Olympics will be held at the McCormick Place in a few weeks.
