Submitted by Side Street Studio Arts
Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in Elgin, is offering summer arts programs for kids where they can learn about filmmaking, dance techniques, and the visual arts. Register at www.sidestreetstudioarts.org.
“Small Wonders Art Camp,” for ages 5 to 7, will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon June 10-14 and Aug. 19-23. Younger children will be exposed to age-appropriate techniques in visual, performance, and media arts. Led by professional arts educators, students will create their own performance and exhibition to be shown at an open house.
There will be only 10 children per session to allow for greater individual attention. Cost is $80 per session if registered by Monday, June 10. Register at www.sidestreetstudioarts.org or stop by the studio.
The “Creative Summer Camp” will be offered from noon to 5 p.m. July 29 to Aug. 10. The camp for ages 7 to 12 will be July 29 to Aug. 3, and the camp for ages 13 to 17 will be Aug. 5-10. The camp is $100 per week.
Core Project artists, through the Community Moves program, will work with students to develop an understanding and appreciation of the arts. This camp consists of master classes and lectures in visual arts, music and sound; film composition; choreography; theater/musical theater; and dance technique.
Aside from classes and lectures, students will be led in the development and creation of their own personal final project, which will be presented in a culminating camp reception. The tools and knowledge provided by Core Project will prepare students to turn their individual ideas into fully realized artistic presentations.
“Summer Film Camp” will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 17-21 and Aug. 12-16.
It is dedicated to student education in filmmaking. Students going into fifth to eighth grade will write, shoot, direct, and edit their own film in a collaborative group setting. No experience is necessary. The camp focuses on the fundamentals of filmmaking.
Students will also utilize HD Flip cameras, Mini-DV cameras, smartphones, digital still cameras, and iMovie video editing software. The camp is $150 and there is limited space available.
Side Street Studio Arts was founded in 2013 by Tanner Melvin and Erin Rehberg as an outlet for the artists of Elgin. Its mission is to provide an accessible space encouraging all aspects of the artistic process, from creation to curation.
