Quinn won’t say if he’ll sign concealed carry

Gov. Pat Quinn won’t say if he’ll sign a concealed carry bill that lawmakers approved last week.

The Chicago Democrat told reporters Tuesday that he’s reviewing the bill. The state constitution says he gets 60 days to decide, but he’s facing a Sunday deadline set by a federal appeals court.

Quinn declined to say what parts, if any, of the proposal he agrees with.

Illinois was the last state in the nation to prohibit the concealed carry of guns. But a federal appeals court ruled it unconstitutional and gave lawmakers until June 9 to come up with a solution.

The plan lawmakers sent Quinn says guns are prohibited from schools and taverns but can be kept in cars.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed for an extension to the deadline, and an appeals court granted it Tuesday.
