St. Charles Ducky Derby supports local student funding, scholarships

The St. Charles Noon Rotary Club and the St. Charles East and North high schools are combining their efforts to put on the largest Ducky Derby race ever at the end of this year’s RiverFest Weekend.

At 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, several thousand individually numbered bright yellow ducks will be dumped into the Fox River at the Illinois Street bridge, starting their race to the finish line.

The winning race Ducky Derby duck will win a $500 first prize, second prize is four tickets to a Cubs’ ballgame at Wrigley Field plus four tickets to three different winter concerts at the Arcada Theatre. Third through eight place ducks also win prizes.

The sales of Ducky tickets, which correspond to the numbered ducks, cost $5 each and are available from St. Charles East and North High School students and local St. Charles Noon Rotarians.

Duck tickets also will be sold the weekend of RiverFest.

Proceeds from the sales benefit both local rotary scholarships and funds for each of the high schools’ Hope Clubs, which focus on students’ mental health issues. Both St. Charles East and North High School students are involved in selling ducks for this race and are competing for scholarships that will be awarded to the students who sell the greatest number of ducks.
