Dolton turning to sheriff to fight corruption

Officials of South suburban Dolton are turning to the Cook County sheriff’s police to help them combat corruption in the village’s government.

Dolton Mayor Riley Rogers said village residents will be able to call or email the sheriff’s department to report corruption.

Rogers, who took office in May, said Friday he has since received reports of village employees not showing up for work, vehicles being purchased without authority and unauthorized overtime. Rogers said an independent, transparent authority is needed to adequately investigate the allegations.

Sheriff Tom Dart said his office is already looking into allegations of corruption in Dolton. He said his department also will eventually handle the village’s emergency 911 calls.
