Elgin Lions to hear about Illinois Eye-Bank at June 4 meeting

At their June meeting, the Elgin Lions Club will hear from Kara Kelly of the Illinois Eye-Bank. The Illinois Eye-Bank is a charitable, nonprofit organization. Its mission is the preservation and restoration of sight through transplantation, research, education and partnership. It is a subsidiary of Midwest Eye-Banks, and operates two eye bank facilities: one in Chicago founded in 1947, and one in Bloomington, Ill., founded in 1952.

The Eye-Bank recovers donated eye tissue, with consent, for the purposes of corneal transplantation, scleral implantation, vision research and training. Its mission is supported by volunteer efforts and charitable contributions, as well as fees to help cover the costs incurred in the provision of eye tissue recovery, evaluation and distribution services.

The club meets at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the Elgin Holiday Inn, 495 Airport Road.

This meeting is also the club's annual awards and installation of officers meeting.

The meeting is open to the public. Those wishing to attend are asked to notify club president Bill Klawitter at billklaw@comcast.net or the Elgin Lions Club's phone answering service at (847) 289-4206 and leave a message.

It is a meal meeting. The cost for the meal is $18, but attendees do not need to partake of the meal. When leaving the message, please indicate if a meal is desired. Advance notification is necessary to provide adequate seating and meals.
