Chicago Sky scouting report

Chicago Sky (0-0) at Phoenix Mercury (0-0)

When:4 p.m., today

Where: US Airways Center

TV: ESPN2

Skinny: In the season opener for both teams, the spotlight will be on star rookies Elena Delle Donne of the Sky and Brittney Griner of the Mercury. But don’t forget about the veterans. The Sky will rely heavily on guard Epiphanny Prince and center Sylvia Fowles, both of whom are healthy after missing significant time last season with injuries. And yet, they both still managed to be among the league leaders in scoring, as well as rebounds (Fowles) and assists (Prince). The Mercury was decimated last season by injuries, which is part of the reason the perennial power sunk low enough to get Griner with the first pick in April’s WNBA draft. All-star forward Penny Taylor missed the entire season with a knee injury, former Sky star Candice Dupree missed 21 games with a knee injury and all-star guard Diana Taurasi missed half the season with various injuries. All three are healthy now and, combined with Griner and forward DeWanna Bonner, who was one of the league leaders in scoring last year, put the Mercury right back into the mix.

Next:Connecticut Sun at Sky, 7:30 p.m. Friday
