Crabtree Nature Center hosts "Explore the Forest" on June 9

Crabtree Nature Center will host a “Leave No Child Inside” event on June 9, 2013. Crabtree Director Jeff Rapp is “excited to be able to showcase a number of the different facets of the Forest Preserve District, the behind-the-scene things that most folks don't usually encounter.” “Explore the Forest” is a day for visitors to experience aspects of the Forest Preserve District that the public rarely sees. In addition to Animal Talks, Children's Activities and the Forest Preserve District's first Nature Play Area, professionals from many different departments will be on hand with specialized equipment demonstrating their roles and ways in which you can participate.

Climb a tree the ways the professionals do at our Restoration Station! Our restoration technicians will be on hand to haul visitors up in tree-climbing harnesses and to show their skills with tree removal demonstrations.

See how our Wildlife Biologists trap, tag and track all kinds of wildlife throughout the preserves!

Explore the prairie and identify insects and plants with our Ecologists!

Check out some of the local fish with our Fisheries Biologists. Learn how to cast and pick up information about fishing opportunities throughout the District.

Try your hand at Archery! Representatives from our Recreation Department will be running an Archery range. Interest in Archery has experienced resurgence and the District is currently considering locations for installation of a permanent Archery range.

All of this and more will be happening at “Explore the Forest” at Crabtree Nature Center, Sunday, June 9, from noon until 4 pm. Crabtree is located in Barrington Hills, on Palatine Road, 1 mile west of Barrington Road. Call 847-381-6592 for more information.
