Marmion-Rosary Band members shine at contest

The Marmion-Rosary Band, directed by Stephen Thurlow and assisted by Matt Kokes, competed in the Wisconsin School Music Association State Solo and Ensemble Contest at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee April 27.
Only students that had received Star performances in the Class A competition at the district level were invited to compete in this festival.
Those students receiving one or more State Gold medals were: Catherine Hayes (Plainfield), bass clarinet solo; Thomas Sieben (Aurora), alto sax solo; Robert Stephens (Bartlett), alto saxophone; Jack Stover (Naperville), tenor saxophone; Lukas McDonald (Batavia), baritone saxophone; Tom Schafer (Batavia), trumpet solo; Kevin Hoss (Sugar Grove), horn solo; John Sieben (Aurora), drum set solo; John Sieben, concert snare solo; Thomas Sieben, piano solo; and Emma Pettyjohn (Sugar Grove), guitar solo.
Those student groups receiving one or more State Gold medals were: Thomas Sieben, Robert Stephens, Genevieve Streich (Aurora) and Jack Stover, saxophone quartet; Alex Lopez (Lisle), Tom Schafer and Brett Koskinen (North Aurora), trumpet trio; Benjamin Pho (Maple Park), Victoria Pho (Maple Park), John Sieben, Jonathan Higgs (Aurora), Sam Kluber (Batavia) and Mary Kate Naughton (St. Charles), percussion ensemble; John Sieben, Mary Kate Naughton, Julia Hoyda (Sugar Grove), Genevieve Streich, Thomas Sieben, Ben Pho, and Harrison Kearby (Aurora), Marmion/Rosary Jazz Combo; and Tomas Sieben, Robert Stephens, Genevieve Streich, Henry Quinn (St. Charles), Jack Stover, Lukas McDonald, Tom Schafer, Brett Koskinen, Ben Rydecki (Somonauk), Matthew Wedll (North Aurora), Julia Hoyda, Isabel Trujillo (Aurora), Joseph Dutton (Aurora), Harrison Kearby, Benjamin Pho, Mary Kate Naughton and John Sieben, all part of Marmion /Rosary Jazz Band.
Students who received perfect scores were: Lukas McDonald, alto saxophone; Thomas Sieben, alto saxophone; Robert Stephens, alto saxophone; Thomas Schafer, trumpet solo; John Sieben, drum set solo; John Sieben, concert snare drum solo; Thomas Sieben, piano; Emma Pettyjohn, guitar; Alex Lopez, Thomas Schafer and Brett Koskinen, trumpet trio; and Benjamin Pho, Victoria Pho, John Sieben, Jonathan Higgs, Sam Kluber and Mary Kate Naughton, percussion ensemble.
Marmion-Rosary also received 15 State Silver medals. Those students receiving one or more State Silver medals were: Genevieve Streich, clarinet solo; Julia Hoyda, trombone solo; Ryan Jenig (Romeoville), trombone solo, Benton Winscott (North Aurora), euphonium solo; Harrison Kearby, tuba solo; Sam Kluber, timpani solo; Ben Pho, piano solo; Victoria Pho, piano solo; and John Sieben, Mary Kate Naughton, Julia Hoyda, Genevieve Streich, Thomas Sieben, Ben Pho and Harrison Kearby, all part of Marmion/Rosary Jazz Combo.
