Radio Celeb Leeza Gibbons tells Arlington Heights' AgingInfoRadio it’s never too late to push the reset button on life

Leeza Gibbons, noted American talk show host and the founder of Leeza’s Place (“A Place for Family Caregivers”), shared her life philosophy with Sue Zawacki, host of Aging Info Radio, which broadcasts each Saturday morning from 6-7 am on AM 560 The Answer. In Gibbon’s new New York Times best seller “Take Two: Your Guide to Creating Happy Endings and New Beginnings,” she recommends that we push the reset button on our life by “getting rid of yesterday’s junk.”

Gibbons proposed that we end up in life where we are supposed to be, right on time. The challenge is to look for the cues when your life is changing and instead of being afraid of change, embrace it and start a new path where you determine who you want to be, and how to get there.

“Everybody has a door in their life marked ‘change,’ that allows us to rid ourselves of the things that tether us to an unfulfilled life. Go through that door and discover that life is a dance, where we are constantly holding on and letting go. Push the reset button on life and it opens new possibilities,” said Gibbons, who added that “rose-colored glasses are an under-rated color.”

Gibbons advocates that we all must believe in something outside of ourselves. She notes that to get to a better place, it starts with faith and hope.

Her approach is integrated into our ability to investigate (look where you are right now and decide where you want to be); navigate (adjust your life to get to where you want to be); and negotiate (work through the challenges you face each day by taking baby steps).

“People who are resilient can find their emotional and physical core by seeking comfort in their own ‘sanity sanctuary,’ where they can test drive their dreams. A key is understanding that while we all need a balanced life, not every day will be in balance, but don’t be afraid of the changes,” added Gibbons.

One of the hardest things for most people to resist, according to Gibbons is that when we say yes to everything, we are often saying no to ourselves. She suggests that yes, is really an acronym for Your Empowerment System, whereby we must decide if our decisions are empowering us so that our self-esteem and courage grow.

“We must understand the business of success. That means seeing the best in people, but recognizing that if conditions change, we must rid ourselves of the toxic people who pull us back. Be gracious and grateful every day, and remember that it’s never too late to start over so take a second take on life – you’re worth it,” concluded Gibbons.
