DuPage forest district sale features native plants

Area residents can buy some eco-friendly additions for their landscapes at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's native plant sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St., Oak Brook.

The sale will feature more than 100 species of flowers, grasses, ferns, shrubs and trees for sunny, shady, wet or dry conditions. Proceeds will support educational programs at the district. “Whether gardeners are starting from scratch or adding to existing plantings, we'll have naturalists on hand to help them make the best choices for any setting,” said sales coordinator Marcy Rogge, who works in the forest district's education office.

This year's sale includes a focus on pollinators.

“Hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and other small creatures help plants everywhere produce fruits and seeds, and many of the colorful native plants that attract these pollinators offer great low-maintenance additions to any garden,” Rogge said.
