Learn about simple machines at Elgin museum program

Submitted by Elgin Public Museum

The theme of this month’s “Science Night” will be “Simple Machines.” The drop-in program will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. on Elgin’s east side.

When you think of machines you probably picture cars, power saws, airplanes, but not all machines need a motor to make them run — all they need is you and a little elbow grease. Did you know that hammers and nails, and tennis racket are machines? Different stations will be set up around the Elgin Public Museum for kids and their parents to conduct experiments and experience demonstrations involving pulleys, levers, wedges, wheels, inclined planes and screws.

The cost is $2 per person, or free for museum members. No registration is required. For information, contact the museum at (847) 741-6655 or russell_epm@cityofelgin.org. Visit elginpublicmuseum.org;http://elginpublicmuseum.org.
