Exelon Honors Lombard Resident Honored for Outstanding Volunteer Service with Cornerstone Services

Exelon Corporation has recognized employee Nicole Tresnak of Lombard, Ill., with a merit award for her volunteer service with Cornerstone Services, which provides assistance to the disabled. The volunteer recognition is part of Exelon's annual Energy for the Community Volunteer Awards and comes with a $5,000 cash grant to the organization in Tresnak's honor.

Tresnak, a lead crew leader at Exelon subsidiary ComEd, has assisted disabled adults at Cornerstone Services for the last 10 years. During this time, she has worked tirelessly as an advocate for individuals with disabilities in Joliet and the greater Will County area and raised unprecedented amounts of funds for the organization.

“Nicole's volunteer service with Cornerstone is greatly appreciated by our staff and she is loved by program participants,” said Susan W. Bultman, vice president of Cornerstone Services. “Nicole's level of impact is reflected in her understanding of the needs of people with disabilities and seeing those needs are met.”

Tresnak divides her volunteer hours at Cornerstone into two services areas: residential and developmental training. At a group home for women, she plans group outings, plays educational games and takes the time to reach out and speak with residents who have no family or visitors.

At Cornerstone's work center in Joliet, she teaches classes, directs work activities and ensures all program participants receive the attention they deserve. Tresnak's volunteer service is a valuable resource for the Cornerstone staff as they share the same goal of helping disabled individuals live normal, active lives.

Cornerstone will use the $5,000 cash grant from Exelon to cover capital expenses.

“I am honored to volunteer with such a great organization," Tresnak said. “Volunteering has always been a part of my family's makeup, and Cornerstone Services has been a special part of my life for the last 10 years. I have seen first-hand how well the organization helps and serves disabled individuals. The best part is being able to see them smile, and the smile on their faces tells it all.”

Christopher M. Crane, Exelon president and CEO, presented Tresnak her award in Chicago on Monday, April 29.

“On behalf of all Exelon employees companywide, I am honored to share in the celebration of Nicole's accomplishments as one of our volunteer award winners,” Crane said. “Her dedicated commitment to Cornerstone Services exemplifies how our employees make meaningful impacts on the communities they serve, not only through their jobs, but also through their volunteer service.”

Exelon introduced the Energy for the Community Volunteer Awards in 2007 to honor employees who demonstrate exceptional commitment to community service and to encourage increased volunteerism. Tresnak is one of 18 employees to receive volunteer awards and grants to the nonprofit organizations they serve. Exelon donated a total of $140,000 in cash grants to those nonprofits this year.

Exelon's Energy for the Community Volunteer Awards were open to all eligible employees from the Exelon family of companies who volunteered at least 50 hours of community service in 2012. Last year, more than 3,800 Exelon employee volunteers gave nearly 105,000 hours of their time to community nonprofit organizations. The donated hours are equivalent to 2,625 workweeks or nearly 50 years of full-time service.

The awards highlight Exelon's Energy for the Community corporate citizenship program, which encourages volunteerism to support environmental stewardship; education, arts and culture; neighborhood enhancement; and diversity in the community.
