‘House of Cards,’ Jerry Seinfeld top Webby Awards
NEW YORK — Netflix’s groundbreaking “House of Cards” and Jerry Seinfeld’s Web series about nothing have earned top honors from the Webby Awards.
The 17th annual Webbys will be officially announced Tuesday. The Webby special achievement award will go to “House of Cards,” the Kevin Spacey political series that showed digital media could produce cable-quality drama. Singled out for outstanding comedic performance is Seinfeld, whose 10-episode Web series “Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee” showcased the “Seinfeld” star hanging out with comedian friends.
The Webbys are held annually to celebrate Internet achievement. Categories are split into both a regular award, chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and a “people’s choice” award.
Winners Tuesday range from Justin Bieber to The Onion to Nate Silver’s Five Thirty-Eight blog. The Australian rail safety public service campaign Dumb Ways to Die, which went viral, led all winners with seven Webbys.
The awards will be handed out in a ceremony May 22 hosted by Patton Oswalt.
