Shot driver slams into garage while fleeing gunman

Chicago police say a driver who was shot several times by a gunman standing on a Far South Side street slammed his car into a garage while trying to flee from the assailant.

Police spokesman John Mirabelli says the shooting took place Friday morning in the West Pullman neighborhood.

A man firing a handgun hit the driver several times in the torso. The driver initially sped up to try to escape but then lost control, striking a parked minivan and slamming into the garage.

Mirabelli says the 38-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

Police do not have a suspect in custody.
