Tours, concert schedule set for Naperville’s carillon

The Millennium Carillon in Moser Tower and the carillon’s Visitor Center open for the season Saturday, May 4, at the foot of Rotary Hill along Naperville’s downtown Riverwalk.

Visitors can climb the 253 steps to the top of the 160-foot tower and enjoy the view of downtown Naperville and surrounding areas while learning about the workings of the carillon, its history and its unique features.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Friday hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., begin May 24 and continue through Aug. 16.

The carillon summer recital series begins Tuesday, June 4, featuring carillonneurs from Naperville, other U.S. cities and the Netherlands, Australia, Denmark and Belgium.

Performers are:

Ÿ June 11: James Fackenthal, assistant carillonneur, University of Chicago;

Ÿ June 18: Katherine Zhou, carillonneur, Chicago;

Ÿ June 25: Arie Abbenes, city carillonneur, Oirschot, Netherlands;

Ÿ July 2: Povl Christian Balslev, city carillonneur, Svendborg, Denmark;

Ÿ July 9: Isaac Wong, honorary carillonneur, University of Sydney, Australia;

Ÿ July 16: Vera Wünsche, carillonneur, Salt Lake City, Utah;

Ÿ July 23: Philippe Beullens, assistant city carillonneur, Mechelen and Leuven, Belgium;

Ÿ July 30: John Widmann, city carillonneur, Frederick, Md.;

Ÿ Aug. 6: Gijsbert Kok, city carillonneur, The Hague, Netherlands;

Ÿ Aug. 13: Lisa Lonie and Janet Tebbel, duo carillonneurs, Philadelphia;

Ÿ Aug. 20: Dick van Dijk, freelance carillonneur, Utrecht, Netherlands.

In addition to the Tuesday evening summer series, weekly recitals by local carillonneurs will begin at noon Saturdays. Weekly pops concerts will be at 7 p.m. Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays beginning in June and continuing through the end of October.
