Quinn to break ground on veteran housing
Gov. Pat Quinn will be joined by Volunteers of America of Illinois at a ground breaking for a housing development designed to serve veterans at risk of homelessness.
The Hope Manor II Apartments will be located in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood.
Volunteers of America of Illinois President Nancy Moyer says the complex will serve a vulnerable population of younger veterans with families. She says many of them are women with young children.
Hope Manor II will have 73 units of studio, one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments. Residents will have access to a variety of services, including job training, a health and wellness center, family counseling and mental health screening.
The National Alliance to End Homelessness estimates more than 11-hundred Illinois veterans experienced homelessness on a given night last year.
