Metra trains resume service after pedestrian accident in Des Plaines
Metra trains began moving through downtown Des Plaines shortly before 10 a.m. today after service was stopped for a couple of hours when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train.
Metra spokesman Tom Miller said inbound and outbound trains 607, 609, 611, 618, 620, 622, 624, 626, 628, and 634 were either delayed or halted near Des Plaines following the accident.
An inbound train struck a man near the Des Plaines train station on Miner Street about 7:30 a.m., authorities said. The man stepped in front of the train and the death is believed to be a suicide, authorities said.
Roads in the area were blocked, causing major traffic disruptions.
Des Plaines police said they will release more information on the accident later this morning.
