On Saturday, May 4, Smart Farm of Barrington will hold a vegetable seedling sale from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Campus, 450 West Highway 22 in Barrington.

Seedlings available to take home on May 4 will include collard greens, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, pak choi, cat grass, cabbage and lettuce. Vegetables not suitable for planting until warmer weather will be available for pre-order to pick up on June 1. For pre-ordering will be eight kinds of tomatoes, including grapes and heirlooms, peppers including various colored bells, three types of basil, thyme, oregano, chamomile, anise, catnip, parsley, eggplant, various edible flowers, zucchini, fennel, tomatillos and summer and winter squashes. All seedlings are organic and locally grown. Funds from the sale will assist Smart Farm in its mission to help feed our neighbors in need.

The seedling sale is in conjunction with Smart Farm's celebration of its partnership with Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. Smart Farm will be introducing its newly constructed hoop house and gardens on the hospital's campus. The celebration will include tours of the hoop house and gardens, demonstrations of composting techniques, music, refreshments, and children's activities.
