No suburban post offices open late for Tax Day

Suburban taxpayers who are waiting until the last minute to file their taxes Monday will have to drive to Chicago to find a post office open late.

A U.S. Postal Service spokesman said the service will not be extending hours at any of its suburban post offices to accommodate last-minute filers.

Instead, only the Main Post Office at 433 W. Harrison Street in Chicago will be accepting tax returns until midnight, according to a postal service news release.

Tax returns sent through a suburban post office must be dropped off by the regular closing time to make the midnight IRS deadline of being postmarked on April 15.
