How About a Lovely Cup of Tea?

Sixty two little ladies and their mothers, grandmothers, and aunts, dressed up in spring florals and straw hats, enjoyed a spot o' tea and sweets at the 9th annual Des Plaines Park District Mother Daughter Tea on April 13, 2013, at Prairie Lakes Community Center. The guests dined on an assortment of finger sandwiches, fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, and cookies, while sipping tea and lemonade from china cups. Over two dozen varieties of black, herbal, and green tea were served this year, including Cozy Chamomile, Orange Spice, Cranberry Apple, and a Royal Blend of Indian and Ceylon Tea imported from London.

After lunch, the girls were treated to a preview of the 2013 Artistry in Motion Spring Showcase Dance Concert. Dancers performed six award winning numbers from their competition season. After, participants at the tea modeled brand-named fashions from Twice-A-Round, a consignment and resale shop in Des Plaines. Mothers and daughters strutted down the catwalk in “like-new” fashions from the Lee Street store.

Guests played spring bingo, tried their hand at Tea Trivia, and made guesses about how many sugar cubes were in a jar. Julie Centrella won a tea service and a bag of green tea for her guess of 723, only two off from the total. Girls made two craft projects, a beaded garden marker and an individually decorated door hanger. A commemorative photo, courtesy of the Des Plaines Camera Club was also included.
