Waukegan All-Stars score medals

Submitted by the Waukegan Park District

The Waukegan Park District congratulates several of the athletes on the SRSNLC All-Stars Basketball Team and Skill programs.

During the weekend of March 15-17, the All-Stars headed down to Bloomington to compete in the 2013 Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament. The Skills competition began on March 16, and Emanuel G. was the qualifier for the Men’s Division 22. Emanuel competed against seven other males in his division. It seems that all his hard work and practice paid off as he earned a gold medal in his division for having the best overall score for dribbling, passing, and shooting.

The All-Star team qualified to compete in Division 13 in the Senior Level Basketball Teams and began their competition on March 16. Their first game proved to be a tough one and unfortunately, they were defeated by the Opportunity House Thunder team with a score of 20 to 50. The All-Stars rallied for their game the next day against LWSRA — Hawks 4. The first half was close with LWSRA in front in the first quarter and the All-Stars with a slight lead after the second quarter. During the second half, the All-Stars took the lead and held it until the end, winning 25 to 16. With this win, the All-Stars secured a bronze medal in their division. Athletes on the All-Stars Team are Angie D., Alex G., Sam M., Tony P., Gary R., Pavel S., Christian T. and Donna W. They are coached by Kari Robinson, Becky Martin, and Sue Smock. Congratulations to the All-Star Team and Skills players for a great showing down at the state games.
