Lake County forest board chooses new executive director
The Lake County Forest Preserve District board on Tuesday hired the agency’s next executive director.
Alex Ty Kovach, a Minnesota resident who’s been working since 2012 for a company that manages a group of private islands in the Republic of Mozambique, was chosen for the job.
He’ll replace Tom Hahn, who retired last month.
Kovach will earn $175,000 a year in his new post. He’ll start June 12.
Until then, Deputy Director Andy Kimmel will serve as interim executive director.
Hahn had worked for the district for 14 years, the last nine as executive director.
Kovach inherits a nationally recognized organization that owns 30,000 acres, 168 miles of trails, three public golf courses and other amenities.
“We look forward to working together with Ty to advance our goals to open new forest preserves to the public, extend our trail system and preserve and restore natural areas and wildlife habitat across the county in a financially responsible way,” forest board President Ann Maine said in a news release.
