Naperville Park District seeks spring cleanup volunteers

In anticipation of Earth Day 2013, the Naperville Park District is inviting volunteers to plan a spring cleanup project in one of the district’s parks during the months of April, May and June.

Corporate groups, Scout troops, churches, high school environmental clubs, neighborhoods, families and other community groups are welcome to participate. Park maintenance tasks include litter pickup, weeding, mulching, removing twigs and other activities.

Volunteers can join others at the annual Riverwalk Spruce-Up Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 20, or they can schedule a project at another park by contacting Lynnette Hoole at lhoole@napervilleparks.org or (630) 848-3606. Parks needing volunteer assistance include:

Volunteers interested in helping at the Riverwalk can simply show up and check in at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Dandelion Fountain, located at Webster Street and Jackson Avenue, across from Nichols Library in downtown Naperville.

Bring your own tools and dress for the weather. In case of inclement weather, updates will be posted on the rainouts/cancellations page at napervilleparks.org.

Another volunteer opportunity taking place on April 20 is tree planting at McDonald Farm, home of The Conservation Foundation, located on Knoch Knolls Road. Volunteers interested in this project may contact Lynnette Hoole at (630) 848-3606 or Volunteers who golf or enjoy being out on a golf course are needed to assist golf staff in repairing golf fairways and greens. Two-hour sessions are scheduled for the first Monday and Tuesday mornings of the month during April, May and June at Springbrook and Naperbrook golf courses.
