Cops: Mom stole from Naperville assistant principal’s purse

The mother of two children at a Naperville middle school is facing felony theft charges after police say she swiped a credit card and cash from an assistant principal’s purse.

Keiyesha Taylor, 33, is accused of helping herself to the items during a visit to Hill Middle School in October. Police said she arrived in tears and asked for help because her family was homeless.

“The assistant principal went to arrange social services for the family and, when she was out of her office, she (Taylor) went into her purse,” Naperville Sgt. Lou Cammiso said Wednesday.

The school administrator “almost immediately” realized three gift cards, a credit card and $20 were missing, Cammiso said. Police issued an arrest warrant Oct. 25 after Taylor was caught on surveillance video trying to use the credit card at a store, he said.

Taylor, of the 6800 block of Valley View in Hanover Park, is a former Naperville resident, according to court records. She denied the theft at an appearance in DuPage County bond court Wednesday, telling a judge, “That’s not true, your honor” as a prosecutor read the charges.

Court records show Taylor faces an unrelated battery charge alleging she spat in a woman’s face in Naperville in September. Bail was set at $20,000 on the theft case.
