Home uninhabitable after fire in St. Charles
A St. Charles home was left uninhabitable after officials from seven different departments spent much of Sunday afternoon fighting a large fire there, authorities said.
At 12:29 p.m., St. Charles firefighters responded to a house fire on the 600 block of State Avenue and found heavy smoke coming from all three floors of the home, according to a news release. The home also reportedly doubled as a day-care facility.
Upon entry the fire was found on all three floors and the alarm was upgraded to a first level MABAS Box Alarm, which brought additional assistance to the scene.
It took two and a half hours for firefighters to extinguish the fire, officials said.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, it does not appear to be suspicious, officials said.
Losses are estimated at $200,000 to the home and $50,000 to the contents.
The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted by the Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, West Chicago, South Elgin and Carol Stream fire departments.
The Fermi Lab, Bartlett and Wheaton Fire Departments provided coverage while St. Charles units were committed to the fire.
