Smart Farm of Barrington Celebrates its Partnership with Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital
On Saturday, May 4, from 12:00 – 4:00 pm, Smart Farm of Barrington will celebrate its new partnership with Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital by introducing to the public its newly constructed hoop house and garden on the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Campus. The hoop house and garden will double Smart Farm's growing space as well as extend its growing season. Smart Farm will continue to have a garden at Ron Beese Park in Barrington.
An organic vegetable seedling sale will also take place featuring varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and squash. The seedlings are being raised in the hoop house and tended to by Smart Farm gardeners. Some plants will be available for purchase that day while others, not suitable for planting until warmer weather, may be ordered for pickup in June. The event will include tours of the hoop house and gardens and demonstrations of composting techniques. Smart Farm's head gardener will be available to answer questions about vegetable gardening.
Smart Farm of Barrington is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization whose mission is to grow fresh produce, 100 % of which is donated to local food pantries, and to serve as an educational resource on sustainable gardening practices and healthy eating.
