Father of slain baby released from hospital

A Chicago man wounded in a shooting that killed his 6-month-old daughter has left a hospital where he was recovering.

A short time after he was released Thursday, Jonathan Watkins went to a Chicago police station to talk with detectives about the shooting.

Police believe the gunman, who is still at-large, targeted Watkins, who they say is a gang member with a long criminal history.

Watkins was shot as he was changing his infant daughter’s diaper on the seat of a parked minivan in the South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn.

The girl, Jonylah, was also hit and died later at a hospital.

A family spokesman says the father has been cooperating with police but does not know who shot him.
