Check out wares at church’s Winter Farmers Market

Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist, 1025 Smith Road, Palatine, will host a Winter Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17.

Farmers from Illinois and Wisconsin will offer cheese, meat and poultry, soap, syrup, honey, wool, raw fibers, vinegars, dried fruits, milled flours, sauces and salsas, preserves, cider, and fresh produce as available. Local craftspeople will sell personal care items, yarn and artwork.

The indoor Winter Farmers Market is sponsored by Faith in Place. Everything you’ll find at the market comes directly from a farm located within 250 miles of Chicago or is produced by vendors, who use locally and sustainably grown goods for at least 25 percent of their ingredients. The markets provide small, local farm producers with additional venues to extend their income beyond the growing season and promote sustainable farming methods and economic justice for regional farm families. The markets also encourage healthy, wholesome eating, support the building of relationships between producers and consumers and help farming families during times of crisis through the Farmer Crisis Fund.

The Winter Farmers Market is part of the Green Sanctuary Program at Countryside, a program that calls us to think about our footprint on the earth and to support those who work toward creating a sustainable life for all.

Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist is a liberal, religious community that confirms, challenges and supports a diverse membership that spans all age groups and faith traditions as well as an array of ethnic, political and economic experiences.
