Naperville restaurant reopens after Friday night fire

The Naperville restaurant shut down Friday evening because of a kitchen fire opened for normal hours Saturday, employees said.

Traverso’s, an Italian restaurant, lounge and pizzeria in south Naperville at 2523 Plainfield/Naperville Road, was cleared by city building inspectors and the Will County Health Department to open at 4 p.m., manager Jason Trakan said.

The restaurant brought in a restoration crew Saturday morning to sanitize and rebuild a wall opened by Naperville firefighters to ensure the fire had not spread, Trakan said.

The fire began about 6:50 p.m. and was determined to be caused by prolonged exposure to excessive heat, authorities said.

Damage to the restaurant was estimated at $15,000, and no injuries were reported.

Traverso’s was opened in 1993 by brothers Mike and Paul Traverso. The restaurant is scheduled to be open from 4 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 9:30 p.m. Sunday and 4 to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
