Village amends policy on commercial corridor snow removal

LOMBARD, Illinois—The Village approved an amendment to its policy regarding snow removal in commercial corridors to make it easier to provide snow-free sidewalks in front of commercial businesses in certain areas of the Village.

The purpose of the policy is to clarify the manner in which businesses located within specific areas of the Village could remove snow on the public sidewalks in front of their businesses.

The plan was developed to correspond to the Village's windrow operation (whereby snow is plowed to the middle of the road), as property owners in these areas are unable to accommodate snow removal due to the configuration, or lack of, a parkway.

The areas affected by the policy include St. Charles Road from Elizabeth Street east to Garfield; Main Street from Grove Street to Washington Boulevard and Westmore/Meyers Road from Division Street to Maple Avenue.

Property owners at businesses located within the above locations will have 12 hours from the end of the snow event to place snow from the sidewalk into the street to be included in the Village's windrow operation.

Property owners will not be subject to citations by the Lombard Police Department during this 12-hour period. Any property owner or tenant placing snow in the street following the 12-hour period may be subject to enforcement action by the Lombard Police Department.
