Hoffman Estates citizen police academy starting soon

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizen Police Academy, in which participants will get hands-on experience with police equipment and receive briefings from patrol officers, detectives and guest speakers.

An orientation meeting will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the police station training room, 411 W. Higgins Road. Classes will meet every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for 15 weeks, ending with a graduation on Monday, June 3. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside or attend work or school in Hoffman Estates. Applicants from areas that do not offer a citizen police academy may also be considered.

Discussion topics will include crime scene investigations, SWAT operations, a K9 demonstration and more.
